Johnson enjoys assisting CSC students in North Platte
CHADRON – Bobi Johnson, Chadron State College program coordinator on the Mid-Plains Community College McDonald-Belton Campus in North Platte, Nebraska, is now responsible for providing an increased array of services to students.
“For 16 years, I’ve introduced CSC programs to students and then passed them on to someone on campus. Now I can actually be the hands-on person and finalize all the enrollment and financial aid steps with them. I’m excited to help with all aspects of their CSC experience,” Johnson said.
Services Johnson will now provide include advising, transfer requirements, scholarship applications, financial aid applications, credit evaluations, degree audits and assisting students with their class schedules.
In addition to serving students and coordinating rooms, technology and other classroom logistics, Johnson has made presentations to numerous businesses and civic organizations in the North Platte area to explain what CSC offers. She has also appeared on local radio and television talk programs promoting the college.
“It’s easy to promote CSC because I believe in it. I know students receive one-on-one, personable attention. Some professors even Skype their students to help them understand concepts, assignments or to discuss career plans. We are a cost effective option. Compared to large, online universities, we provide the most for a student’s dollar,” Johnson said.
She emphasized the transfer process is seamless for MPCC graduates to transfer to CSC.
“Some of our big success stories are when I see them coming back for a master’s degree a couple of years after earning their bachelor’s degree from CSC,” she said.
Johnson said the most popular majors for CSC students in North Platte are elementary education, business administration and psychology.
Sherry Douglas, senior director of student services, said Johnson’s experience will be an advantage in her new role, referred to as a Student Transition And Registration Team (START) adviser.
“This position is like having your own personal CSC assistant through your college experience through graduation. We hope students will take advantage of the luxury of meeting one-on-one with Bobi rather than using email, traveling to campus or calling,” Douglas said.
Johnson can be contacted at 308-535-3704, bjohnson@csc.edu or the McDonald-Belton Campus, Room 140a.
