CHADRON – In the final installment of the fall 2015 Graves Lecture Series Nov. 10, Peggy Hinman, a community resident and certified “8 to Great” coach and presenter, spoke to the audience about “Life: It Depends on How You Look at It.”

She based her remarks on the popular book “8 to Great: The Powerful Process for Positive Change,” by MK Mueller who presented a training session on campus in 2014 where Hinman received her certification.

Hinman said each person’s attitude determines everything in his or her life. Using a power pyramid, she explained most people operate below the 95 percent level instead above it where a person demonstrates enthusiasm, energy, joy, love, hope and gratitude by using Mueller’s “8 High-Ways to Success.”

The “8 High-Ways to Success,” according to Hinman, are as follows:

1. Get the picture - visualize the end result and “think it ‘til you feel it.”

2. Risk - look at situations and determine, “If fear was not a factor, what would I do?”

3. Full Responsibility - move from blaming and complaining to acting and dreaming.

4. Feel all your feelings - allow both mad and sad emotions to help heal.

5. Honest Communication - ask for what you want, listen to others, but stop rumors.

6. Forgiveness of the past - acknowledge we did the best we could at the time with what information we had.

7. Gratitude for the present – realize you’ve never met someone who is ungrateful who is also happy.

8. Hope for the future - the road to success is never a straight line, you just have to keep on keeping on.

The free, public Graves Lecture Series will resume in the spring 2016 semester. The series takes place in Reta King Library, Room 111 on selected Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and can be viewed at csc.edu/live. Shawn Hartman, outreach librarian, welcomes speaker suggestions. She can be reached at 308-432-6271 or shartman@csc.edu.
