Gallagher appointed CSC Student Trustee
LINCOLN – Gov. Pete Ricketts has appointed Chadron State College student Mikayla Gallagher of Spearfish, South Dakota; Peru State College student Millie Anderson of Elmwood, Nebraska and Wayne State College student Matthew Mullins of Falls City, Nebraska, to serve as 2015-16 student representatives on the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees.
Gallagher, a sophomore, is majoring in legal studies while earning a minor in English. She has served as a student mentor and a member of the Student Senate. Her interest in justice and legal studies is evident through her work as a judicial representative for one of the residence life councils, and her internships as a secretary and legal assistant in the South Dakota Assistant State Attorney’s Office.
She is a member of the CSC golf team and has also served in leadership roles for the Republicans Club and the Campus Activities Board.
In her application, Gallagher said she was interested in the position due to her future career path.
"I thought this would be a great opportunity to further represent CSC to best of my ability. I’ve been involved on campus. This is the next step. I’m honored because I know there were a lot of qualified candidates," Gallagher said.
Dr. Lisette Leesch, professor of justice studies, said Gallagher is able to appreciate student concerns and represent their interests well. Leesch said Gallagher has a common sense approach and will speak her mind.
“At a time when it seems many people shy away from public service, Mikayla is willing and able to participate,” Leesch said.
Gallagher is the daughter of Lynnette Gordon and Mike Gallagher, both of Spearfish, South Dakota.
