CSC receives Chadron Garden Club's "Pick of the Month" award
CHADRON – For the first time in history, Chadron State College has earned the Chadron Garden Club “Pick of the Month” award. The honor is noted by a photo in the local newspaper and a yard sign – a traveling trophy of sorts – placed in the recipient’s yard.
The honor has traditionally been given to residential homeowners, but the club felt that the lush, visual appeal of the 281-acre campus in August, a typically hot and dry month, was worthy of the acknowledgement, according to Renae Noble, a member of the Pick of the Month committee.
Noble presented the award, on behalf of the club, to CSC horticulturist Lucinda Mays and members of the CSC grounds crew Thursday morning.
Mays said her co-workers prefer to avoid the spotlight regarding recognition for their work grooming the CSC landscape.
“These guys are hard to thank publicly, but it’s important for folks to know that our campus is kept up year ‘round by Bryan Enos, Fred Hunn, Silas Kern, Craig LaFontsee, Steve Weber, Charlie Wood and some hard-working college students,” Mays said.
