Thanks to funds from Student Senate a new electronic magazine, Student Health 101, will be available to Chadron State College students each month during the academic year.

Ann Dockweiler, CSC nurse, announced late last week that the first issue of the magazine will be distributed via email this week. Students can also receive the magazine link instantly on their mobile devices by texting “CSC” to 40691.

The magazine contains rich content such as videos, slide shows and news bulletins on topics like nutrition and recipes, relationships, exercise, drugs, sexual assault, budgeting, academics and careers. A self-care section is also featured.

Dockweiler encourages students to also visit Student Health 101 Facebook and Twitter pages where they can view timely updates and bulletins in addition to the monthly magazine.

"I'm really excited about the Student Health 101 magazine and commend Student Senate for financing it. This is a great way to get relevant health information out to students in the way they want to view it," Dockweiler said.

Student Senator Taylor Osmotherly said the magazine will be an incredible campus resource.

“The magazine covers purposeful and applicable information that students should know, and this information is given in a fun and practical way. I can't wait to start reading,” he said.

CSC offices which can assist students with health-related issues are listed under a Resources tab. On another tab CSC students may enter to win a monthly nationwide $1,000 prize. News and events related to student health at CSC will be included in each issue.

At least one CSC instructor, Jenn Schaer, plans to use the Student Health 101 content as supplemental material in her Personal Health and Wellness course this semester.

Parents of CSC students will also receive a monthly parent magazine, “The Student Advocate,” with content correlated to each student issue.

The headquarters of College Health Services, which produces the magazine, is based in Westborough, Massachusetts. About 500 colleges and universities throughout North America subscribe to the magazine including CSC’s sister institution, Wayne State College.
