LAMAR, Colo. – Chadron State cowboy Colby Anders won the steer wrestling and was second in tie down roping to win the all-around honors at the Lamar College rodeo over the weekend.

Anders earned 280 points to help the CSC men have another outstanding rodeo. They finished second in the team standings for the third time in four rodeos in the Central Rocky Mountain Region this fall. They won the team championship at the Sheridan College rodeo the previous weekend.

The CSC cowboys have racked up 1,985 points at the four rodeos to build a lead of more than 300 points over Eastern Wyoming, which is second in the standings.

Anders was second in the first go-round of the steer wrestling in 4.5 seconds and took first in the finals Sunday in 9.5 seconds. A native of Bayard who transferred to CSC this fall from Northeastern Junior College at Sterling, Colorado, Anders tied for ninth in the first go-round of tie down roping in 12.6 seconds, but was first in the finals in 10.6 seconds to finish second overall.

Another Chadron State cowboy, Sam Bolden of Oglala, South Dakota, won the tie down title with times of 11.9 and 10.9 seconds. He placed third and second in the go-rounds, respectively. There were 75 tie down ropers at the rodeo.

Still another CSC contestant, Clayton Van Aken of Descanso, California, was a member of the winning team roping entry. He and Trey Yates, who attends Laramie County Community College, shared second place in the first go-round in 7.0 seconds and took first in the finals in 6.2 seconds.

Two more Chadron State men finished second in their events. They are Nate McFadden of Elsmere in bareback riding and Chasen Cole of Hermosa, South Dakota, in bull riding.

McFadden tied for first in the opening go-round with 73 points and was the runner-up in the finals with 71. Cole scored just 39 points on his first bull, but earned 66 in the second go-round and was one of only two bull riders to have two scores at the end of the rodeo.

Also finishing second for CSC was its reliable goat tier, Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff. She completed both of her runs in 8.2 seconds. Through the first four rodeos this fall, Winchell has accumulated 550 points while the runner-up in the region has 340.

Two more CSC entries also placed sixth in their events at Lamar. They are Prestyn Novak of Newell, South Dakota, in steer wrestling and Kelsey Knust of Verdigre, Nebraska, in team roping. Novak was the all-around cowboy at the Sheridan College rodeo the final weekend of September.

The region’s final rodeo of the fall will be this weekend at LCCC in Cheyenne.
