CSC bareback rider not expected to make finals

CASPER, Wyo. -– Chadron State College cowboy Wyatt Clark had ridden all three of his barebacks at the College National Finals Rodeo, but his scores are undoubtedly too low to put him in the finals Saturday night.

Clark scored 68.5 points in the performance Wednesday night. It ranks 10th at the halfway point in the third go-round. He had earned 69 and 65.5 points on his first two rides. That gives him 203 total points and puts him in ninth place with about 20 contestants still to ride in the third go.

Since only 12 contestants in each event advance to the finals, it is highly unlikely that he will make the cut.

The bareback leader through Wednesday’s competition is Neil Williams of Casper College. He has scored at least 73.5 points on each of his broncs and has a total of 225.5 points.

Clark is a native of Wellfleet, Nebraska, and had competed at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington and the University of Wyoming before enrolling at Chadron State last fall as a graduate student and to help coach the CSC team.

A vast majority of the bareback riders at the finals rodeo have ridden their horses. After 93 trips out of the chute, only 13 cowboys have been bucked off or received a no score for a rules infraction.
