Chadron State hosting 'Science Saturdays'
CHADRON – Saturday mornings aren’t just for cartoons anymore.
Beginning in October, Chadron State College faculty members will host Science Saturdays, a program that allows students in third through fifth grades to be involved in safe, hands-on experimentation and observation.
During selected Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., students will be guided by CSC faculty Mike Leite, Jen Balmat, Ann Buchmann, Doug Poole and Beth Wentworth and students from science and education classes.
All sessions will be in the Math and Science building, room 144. To register, contact Buchmann at abuchmann@csc.edu. Students must register by Sept. 25 and each session is limited to first 35 applicants.
The sessions, with details, are as follows.
Oct. 3 – Build your own rocket
Oct. 17 – Making rocket fuel
Oct. 24 – How to land a rover safely on Mars
Nov. 14 – Exploring the Martian landscape
Nov. 21 – Zero gravity and you
Dec. 5 – Colonizing an alien planet
Dec. 12 – Star party (6-9 p.m.)
