Campus Arboretum Volunteers plan pruning workday April 11

Chadron State College Campus Arboretum Volunteers (CAV) and interested area gardeners will meet for a pruning workshop and workday Saturday, April 11

Lucinda Mays, CSC horticulturist, will teach a lesson about pruning shrubs and young trees at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center at 9 a.m. Topics will include selective pruning, restorative pruning, heading back, shearing and structural pruning of deciduous and evergreen shrubs. The session is suitable for both beginners and experienced gardeners.

Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring available pruning tools for work around various building on the west side of campus.

“These projects will offer volunteers practice in the skills needed to successfully care for shrubs and young trees at homes or other locations,” Mays said.

Families with children are welcome to attend.  Refreshments will be served and the session ends promptly at noon.
