Two CSC goat tiers rank high in opening go-round

Two Chadron State College goat tiers finished high during the opening go-round at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper on Monday.

Shaylee Hance, a junior from Circle, Mont., finished third in the go-round in 6.4 seconds and Shelby Winchell, a senior from Scottsbluff, tied for sixth in 6.6 seconds.

The third CSC cowgirl in the goat tying, Amy Tierney, a senior from Oral, S.D., shared 19th among the 43 entries in 7.2 seconds.

The fastest time in the first round was shared by Lauren Barnes of Northwestern Oklahoma State and Shelby Freed of Idaho State in 6.4 seconds.

The two Chadron State barrel racers who qualified for the national finals, Amy Deichert of Spearfish, S.D., and Katie Loughran of Broken Bow, were down a ways in the first go-round standings. Deichert was 20th in 14.49 seconds and Loughran was 30th in 14.76. There are 51 barrel racers at the rodeo.

The fastest time in the barrels on Monday was posted by Lauren Reiser of Montana State in 14.10 seconds.

Both Deichert and Loughran are juniors.

All five CSC contestants will be competing again during the second go-round on Tuesday. The three goat tiers will make their third runs Wednesday night.

Deichert will also make her third run around the barrels Wednesday night while Loughran’s third run will be Thursday night.

The top 12 in the standings for each event after three go-rounds will compete in the championship go-round Saturday night.
