State college student leaders meet, discuss common interests

 CSC Student Senate Chief Justice Jon Lordino said the annual Nebraska State College System conference was a good experience.

Eight Peru State and four Wayne State student senators and students representing organizations equivalent to the CSC Campus Activity Board attended the event with one advisor accompanying each campus delegation.

“We learned a lot about each other, different issues and strategies to approach them. There are right ways and wrong ways to address concerns and we learned from sharing both mistakes and successes,” Lordino said.

The PSC and WSC guests toured the CSC campus and discussed concerns about student alcohol consumption, longboard use on campuses and the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. Representatives of each college also provided a presentation about the programs and services offered by their institution.

Dr. Pat Beu, senior director of student affairs, welcomed the visitors to campus and Dr. Randy Rhine, president, spoke during a formal dinner Friday night.

“This was a valuable opportunity. It’s healthy for the student leadership of all three campuses to discuss areas of commonality. It’s good to see them problem solve and explore student concerns while considering multiple viewpoints,” Beu said.
