Spring 2014 Graves Lecture Series begins this week

The schedule for the spring 2014 Dorset Graves’ Library Lecture Series has been announced by Shawn Hartman, assistant director of public services at the Reta E. King Library.

All lectures are held on Tuesdays and begin at 7 p.m. in room 108 of the King Library. Each event will be available via live streaming. See the schedule of upcoming live streaming events at csc.edu/live.

Feb.18 - Richard Kenney “Poemhenge – Poetry on the Rocks”

March 4 – Dr. Kurt Kinbacher – “Walking the Kumano Kodo: An Exercise in World History”           

March 18 – Dr. Linda Hunt Brown and Dr. Jesse Sealey, topic TBA

April 1 – Dr. Susan Hines, topic TBA

The series, established in 2006 to honor Dr. Dorset Graves, is a forum for speakers who represent a broad spectrum of disciplines, philosophies and ideas.

The lectures are informal explorations and discussions of topics that have stimulated and intrigued the guest speakers. Members of the audience are invited to participate in the discussion afterward.

Graves was full-time faculty member in the CSC department of Language and Literature for 32 years before retiring in 1990. He was the department chair for all but the first three years of those years. After retiring, he frequently served as an adjunct professor, teaching humanities. He passed away in 2012.
