The CSC Rodeo Club's annual Black Tie Calf Fry Feb. 8 was attended by more than 200 people and raised $5,300 through a live and a silent auction of donated items.

Rodeo team coach Dustin Luper thanked everyone involved with hosting the meal and event. He expressed appreciation for all those supporters who donated items for the auction.

Nebraska cowboy poet R.P. Smith entertained the crowd and Paul Tierney, all-around world champion cowboy and father of current rodeo team member Amy Tierney of Oral, S.D., addressed the audience sharing stories of hard work and vivid dreams that helped him win the world championship on a $460 horse.

Paul showed a copy of “Calf Roping” by Toots Mansfield and said that the book inspired him toward his goals as he repeatedly read it during his youth.

Con and Peggy Marshall were recognized for their continual support of the CSC rodeo program over the years and Con, who has provided news coverage of the team for years, was presented with a CSC belt buckle.
