Members of the incoming Chadron State College freshmen class have more to write home about than the usual first week of college experiences. They hold the distinction of being included in the largest CSC class of freshmen, to date.

In his annual all-campus address Friday morning, Dr. Randy Rhine, president, told those assembled the total of new students includes 482 freshmen, 203 transfers and 113 graduate students.

Nebraska is the home state for 54 percent of current CSC students, followed by 11 percent from Wyoming, 8 percent from Colorado and 8 percent from South Dakota. Sixty-seven percent are full-time students, 42 percent come from families where neither parent has earned a four-year degree, and 69 percent are under the age of 25.

The new freshmen and transfers represent 34 different states with 47 states represented by the entire student body.

Admissions Director Lisa Stein said the enrollment results from a lot of teamwork across the campus are very exciting.

“We did this together. It takes a village to recruit a student,” Stein said.

The number of students residing on campus this fall matches the second highest number of housing contracts on record. Two of the three Eagle Ridge housing units on the east side of campus were opened for students Thursday afternoon.

The largest group of international students to ever begin studies at CSC, 26, was also announced. These students come from 14 different countries. With the Bridge English language program beginning on campus later this fall, the number of international students is expected to increase, Rhine said.
