New trustees appointed to Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees

 Zeiss’ appointment is effective until Jan. 1, 2015. He will serve on the fiscal, facilities and audit committee.

He said he plans to be a strong advocate for the state colleges.

“The state colleges play an important role throughout Nebraska. As someone who grew up and is now working in Nebraska, I recognize the challenges associated with keeping our young kids in Nebraska to go to college and stay here to work.” said Zeiss.

“The state colleges provide an affordable education and are strategic to Nebraska’s growth.” Zeiss said.

“As a community and business leader, Jess brings an important perspective to the Nebraska State Colleges. His ties to Wayne will undoubtedly benefit his understanding of the educational and economic landscapes in rural Nebraska and the critical role the state colleges play in Nebraska’s future," said NSCS chancellor Stan Carpenter.

Zeiss is employed at First National Capital Markets in Omaha where he lives with his wife, Dana, and his daughter, Lexi. Zeiss is involved in numerous leadership programs related to banking and juvenile diabetes research. Zeiss is also active in his daughter’s school activities.

Nebraska commissioner of education Matt Blomstedt joined the NSCS Board of Trustees for the January board meeting. He will serve on the academic and personnel committee. The commissioner is appointed as a trustee by virtue of the office.

“I am looking forward to interacting with folks from the NSCS and to visiting Chadron, Peru and Wayne State Colleges. The state colleges are dedicated to providing educational opportunities in their communities and across Nebraska and the region,” said Blomstedt.

Carpenter said, “Having the commissioner as a member of our board is critical to our continuing efforts to strengthen the ties between PK-12 and postsecondary education. We are fortunate to have someone with Matt’s commitment to and understanding of education serving on the board.”
