New EagleCard to transform CSC ID card services

Chadron State College has signed a contract with the Campus Solutions division of Heartland Payment Systems for the implementation of a progressive, centralized identity management system called EagleCard.

Ann Burk, chief information officer for CSC, said the announcement is the result of a year of campus-wide strategic planning, including a review of technical, operations and business processes.

The campus also completed an extensive vendor review and evaluation process which included three product demonstrations on campus, reference checks and site visits to campuses currently using the products.

“The Heartland OneCard solution will positively affect nearly everyone who studies, works or attends conferences at Chadron State College. It is the best fit overall. We’re excited to provide these enhanced services to the campus,” Burk said.

She said a site visit to the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs during the review process served as confirmation that the Heartland OneCard was the top choice for CSC.

Burk said all students, faculty and staff associated with the college will be able to use their new smartcard with the option of their personal smartphone as a form of ID for campus dining services, building access, NPAC access and equipment checkout, library material checkout, event entrance, print and copy services, and vending.

The EagleCard will use encrypted contactless technology as part of the card to provide secure transactions.

Current card holders will receive an email later this semester inviting them to either stop by the ID card office in the Student Center for a new photo or to upload one electronically.

“Online submission of ID photos and the use of a cell phone as a mobile ID were features we asked for and we found them with the Heartland solution,” Burk said.

Fred Emery, vice president of Heartland Campus Solutions ECSI, said, “The CSC team was well-organized and put a lot of thought and time into their goals. The campus is quite forward-thinking to choose a system that can expand services to students as new technology becomes available.”

The first phase of the EagleCard implementation will focus on installation of keyless entry to the exterior doors of the residence halls, including Eagle Ridge, and one door to the Nelson Physical Activity Center, the Student Center and Miller Hall for employee use. A new point of sale system used by dining services and the NPAC access system will be included in phase one as well.

In phase two, exterior readers will be installed for the remainder of buildings on campus and a box office module and copy/print management will be implemented.

In addition to establishing a centralized identity transaction system, the implementation will replace several legacy systems, increase campus security, streamline business processes and increase customer service.
