Veterans who may be in need of services but unable to travel to a Veterans’ center will have an opportunity this week to have these services available much closer to home.

The Mobile Vet Center of the Department of Veterans Affairs will be in the parking lot in front of the Chadron State College Student Center Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The MVCs provide outreach, readjustment counseling and information resources to Veterans across the country.

When a Vet Center is miles from home, it can be a long drive to access many services. The Mobile Vet Center makes it more convenient. These mobile centers focus on services that help veterans make the difficult transition between military and civilian life.

Across the country, 70 motorized MVCs are driven to far-reaching rural areas to provide Veterans with services such as counseling for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Military Sexual Trauma, bereavement, marriage and family, and resources like VA benefits information and suicide prevention.

The South Dakota MVC is based out of the Rapid City Vet Center and is equipped as an “office on wheels.” Two dividers separate the motor coach into private counseling rooms, confortable furniture, tables and couches to allow for individual or small group counseling sessions.

For emergency sessions, the vehicle comes with a medical exam table, a defibrillator, first aid kit, beds, shower, refrigerator, microwave, and other amenities.

For more information on the MVC, contact the Rapid City Vet Center at 605-348-0077, or contact Jeff Gorr at Jeffrey.gorr@va.gov.
