Married couple voted Ivy Day King and Queen
Outstanding Chadron State College December 2013 and Spring 2014 graduates were honored at Ivy Day, a CSC ceremony which dates back nearly 100 years.
In an unusual turn of events, a married couple Danny and Stephanie Reynaga of Alliance, were voted Ivy Day King and Queen. They are expecting their first child this summer and Danny plans to run a marathon. He will enter law school this fall. Stephanie recently completed her student teaching in Rapid City, S.D. and earned her degree in education.
This was the first time in recent history for a husband and wife to receive the honors. In 2012, a brother-sister pair, Luke and Stacee Wright, was elected. In 2002, an engaged couple, Lindy Kingsbury and Brett Foley, won the honors.
Attendants for 2014 are Brooke Barelmann of Chambers, Neb., Randi Hughes of Scottsbluff, Neb., Beth Wroblewski of St. Paul, Neb., Karly Watson of Grand Island, Neb., Gavan Archibald of St. Ann, Jamaica, Glen Clinton of Cody, Wyo., Lucas Kaufman of Torrington, Wyo., and Corey Paz of McCook, Neb.
Royalty candidates were nominated from among Blue Key and Cardinal Key honor society members. Membership in both organizations is based on scholarship, leadership and character.
Student orators for the evening were Stephanie Reynaga and Lucas Kaufman of Torrington, Wyo. who recognized his sister, Bethany, as an inspiration in his life through the way she has dealt with scoliosis.
Dr. Tim Donahue, professor of business, presented the faculty greeting.
The Platinum Eagle was awarded to the top male senior Danny Reynaga and top female senior, Amanda Bown of Sidney, Nebraska. The recipients were selected by a student-faculty committee based on “distinguished leadership and service.” The award is considered the highest honor that a Chadron State student can receive.
