The Chadron State College men’s flag football team gained some experience by participating in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Regional Flag Football Tournament in Lincoln Nov. 7-9.

The team lost its first game against South Dakota State University 14-13 in double overtime. They lost the second game to Drake University 34-20.

According to Chris Green, Nelson Physical Activities Center coordinator, during the game against Drake, with the score tied and less than two minutes to go, Drake scored on a long pass play and then got an interception followed by another touchdown to seal the win.

Team captain Luke Miller said the level of play was high with some of the teams at the Nebraska tournament advancing to compete for the national flag football championship.

“It was really cool to see the caliber of competition that an Air Force and University of South Dakota brings to the tournament. Being able to have this experience and share with others at Chadron State will hopefully allow future teams to compete at this regional and possibly attend the national tournament,”  Miller said.

The University of South Dakota won the men’s division of the tournament. The University of Missouri won the women’s division and South Dakota State University won the co-rec division.

Green said he plans to try to send a men’s and a women’s basketball team to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln basketball Regional tournament March 6-8, 2015.

He said a CSC basketball team was not possible last year becasue students were not available due to a spring break.
