Homecoming schedule packed with activity

A full schedule of “Welcome to the Jungle” events will be offered during Chadron State College Homecoming 2014.

Coronation of homecoming royalty and announcement of bed sheet poster winners will be 7 p.m. in Armstrong Gym Thursday, Oct. 2.

The Campus Activity Board sponsors the bed sheet poster contest. Clubs, groups, organizations or individuals are welcome to compete. Contest details are available online.

A "Welcome to the Jungle" dance will be featured as the Late Night at the Pit Activity in the Student Center from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Friday, Oct. 3, at noon, the Eagles Luncheon in the Student Center Bordeaux Room will offer alumni and friends of the college time to visit with CSC President Randy Rhine.

Campus Tours will be available for alumni and guests starting at the Student Center 2-3:30 p.m.

The CSC volleyball team faces Regis at 6 p.m. in Armstrong Gym.

The Golden Era Social and Baker Era Social will each begin at 6:30 p.m.

The ceremonial lighting of "C" Hill, spirit rally and bonfire are planned to take place after the volleyball game south of the resident hall complex.

Saturday, October 4, begins bright and early with registration for the Eagle 5k Run/Walk from 7 to 7:45 a.m. and the race at 8 a.m. at the Nelson Physical Activity Center west overhead doors. Alumni are invited to a coffee 8-9 a.m. at the Student Center.

The annual homecoming parade will start at 9:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Main Street with local radio personality John Axtell serving as Grand Marshal. Prior registration is not needed. All entries need to be in place by 9 a.m. The parade will proceed south to campus and end on 10th Street. Additional parade details are online.

Chi Omega sorority sisters and guests will meet for a brunch in Crites Hall at 10:30 a.m.

Distinguished Service Award recipients Randy and Lorrie Bauer and Chad and Cheryl Emanuel will be honored at an 11 a.m. luncheon in the Student Center along with Alumni Award recipients John Jacox, Ronnald Jeffrey and Dick Kettlewell. Alumni groups will also be honored.

Kickoff for the football game against Western State is set for 1 p.m. on Elliott Field. The Booster Club will host a 4 p.m. postgame reception at the Country Kitchen.

Socials and dinners for each of the following groups will begin at 6 p.m.: Golden Era Reunion for classes of 1963 and 1964, the Baker Era Reunion and the Chi Omega Reunion.

The volleyball team will take on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at 6 p.m. in Armstrong Gym.

A homecoming dance will wrap up the day at 9 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
