An idea that recent Chadron State College graduate Danny Reynaga of Alliance, Nebraska, picked up while traveling last year as the CSC student trustee with the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees is coming to fruition.

“The water bottle filling stations were the result of some experiences during my time as student trustee. I got a chance to see what kind of technology the other state colleges were using,” Reynaga said.

Following Reynaga’s encouragement, CSC’s Student Senate approved the allocation of $15,000 for 13 water bottle refilling stations around campus. The first one has been installed in Old Admin and preparations are being made for the installation of the remaining units over the summer months.

A lighted meter on each station indicates how many plastic water bottles have been eliminated by the amount of water dispensed through the station.

Reynaga thinks the stations will be a big hit this fall and promote both recycling as well as drinking more water.
