Nine Chadron State College student leaders plan to share what they discovered during the National Conference on Student Leadership they attended in Orlando, Florida, Nov. 20-23.

Members of the delegation will share conference highlights in the Student Center Tuesday and Wednesday. The presentations are open to students, faculty and staff.

The schedule of presentations Tuesday in the Ponderosa Room includes Taylor Strong 1-2 p.m., Jacob Rissler 2-3 p.m., Dillon Spies 3-4 p.m. and Coy Clark 4-5 p.m.

Presentations Wednesday in the Lakota Room include Kirby Krogman 2-3 p.m., Jonathan Lordino 4-5 p.m. and Marci Lutton and Courtney Bustillos 6-7 p.m.

Strong encouraged students to attend the overview sessions this week so they can also gain insight into leadership traits from the conference.

“I enjoyed learning more leadership skills. I plan on using the things I learned and improving my own leadership abilities when it comes to Student Senate and the student body,” Strong said.

CSC students attending the conference were Nathaniel Brown of Rapid City, S.D., Courtney Bustillos of Torrington, Wyo., Coy Clark of Benkelman, Neb., Kirby Krogman of White River, S.D., Jon Lordino of Chadron, Marci Luton of Grand Island, Neb., Jacob Rissler of Gillette, Wyo., Dr. Susan Schaeffer, Dillon Spies of Grand Island, Neb. and Taylor Strong of Scottsbluff, Neb.

Another conference attendee expressed confidence about the leadership abilities he learned how to implement at CSC.

“I learned several things that I can implement in my own life as well as in my role as a Resident Adviser to better connect with my residents and others that I will lead and be involved with throughout not only my collegiate career but also my professional career,” Clark said.

Bustillos said the conference was a great experience that helped her step out of her comfort zone while learning techniques and approaches she can utilize as a CSC student leader.

Keynote speaker and Yale graduate Heather Hiles addressed preparing for changing demands in the work place. Following Hiles’ remarks, the CSC delegation attended break-out sessions on topics including public speaking, civic engagement, emotional intelligence, conflict management and value-based leadership.

A session about evaluating personalities, “True Colors,” explained how to work with different personalities and additional break-out sessions addressed public relations, money management and strength-based leadership.

The final keynote speaker, Lance Smith, focused on turning negative thoughts into positive energy.
