CSC Rodeo Club gears up for annual 'Black Tie Calf Fry'

 Set for Feb. 8, the annual dinner and auction historically draws a large crowd. CSC rodeo coach Dustin Luper said that this year will feature live music by Back Roads.

Paul Tierney will also address the gathering. He was the 1980 All-Around World Champion pro cowboy and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame as the 2008 all-around cowboy.

Tierney raises and trains American Quarter horses on his ranch near Hot Springs, South Dakota, and conducts roping clinics in the region.

Proceeds from the event, which features music, dinner and a live auction, will go to the CSC rodeo club.  A variety of auction items will include western art paintings, jewelry and home décor.

The $10 admission includes roast beef with au jus, red-skinned potatoes, buttered corn, “Rocky Mountain Oysters,” salad, dinner rolls, and dessert. Tickets should be purchased at the door in the CSC Student Center Ballroom.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and runs until midnight.

Luper doesn’t expect many black ties among the crowd, despite the event’s name.

“We call it the Black Tie Calf Fry just because of the rhyme scheme. Dress is casual,” he said.

The Chadron State Rodeo Association was organized in 1953. The purpose of the organization is to maintain and increase the interest of college students in the sport of rodeo and to promote high scholastic standards among students participating in rodeo activities. Membership is open to all students attending Chadron State College.
