CSC Dining Services and the King Library have partnered to provide a new gathering space for students, faculty and staff. The coffee shop opened in the Library Learning Commons Wednesday.

Dr. Charles Snare, vice president of academic affairs, said the opening of the coffee shop demonstrates perseverance.

“We have overcome many hurdles to achieve the coffee shop within the Library Learning Commons. This would not have transpired without the persistence of many faculty and staff. I am very grateful for their efforts,” Snare said.

Taryn Marcy, catering manager with CSC Dining Services, said the coffee shop hours, beginning Aug.18, will be Monday through Thursday 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 5-8 p.m. and Friday 7-11 a.m.

Dr. Susan Hines, associate vice president of teaching and learning technologies, said she is excited about the coffee shop and looks forward to faculty, staff and students enjoying coffee while reading, studying, browsing the Internet or socializing in the recently renovated LLC.

The coffee shop is one step toward accomplishing the following priority from the new Master Academic Plan (MAP) 2014-2018: “create and implement a strategic vision(s) for teaching and learning technologies, teaching and learning center (TLC) and the library learning commons (LLC),” according to Snare.

Maintenance superintendent Harold Mowry extended his thanks to the members of the maintenance staff who completed the construction of the coffee shop.

In addition to LaRue coffee, which is freshly ground in a Virtu machine for each cup of coffee, other hot and cold beverages and a variety of snacks will be available. A different sandwich and salad will be featured daily.

“We’re excited to offer the CSC community something different from what they have seen in the past on campus. We will be offering many items that are unique to the coffee shop. And we are very excited to be partnering with the LLC,” Marcy said.

Although students will not be able to use their meal plan at the shop, Eagle Bucks will be accepted. Cash is the other form of payment that will be accepted.

Marcy plans to revitalize the CSC Dining Services Facebook page and post a blog to inform the campus community about food, beverages and special events at the coffee shop. Twitter posts from @LLCatCSC will also provide information about happenings in the LLC and coffee shop.
