Ancient Roman life topic of Graves Lecture tonight

The fall 2014 Graves Lecture Series continues tonight. The featured speaker is Dr. Kurt Kinbacher, assistant professor in the social and communication arts department.
The title of his talk is “Life in the Roman Provinces: Place, Space, and Indoor Plumbing in Emona.”
Emona, a Roman military colony, was founded in 14 CE. Although burned to the ground about 400 by Romans themselves as they retreated from barbarian expansion, the community celebrated its 2,000 year anniversary this year.
Always small and on the periphery of the empire, Emona was and is an important place, according to Kinbacher.
Spatially, Emona stood apart from the Iron-Age Celtic hilltop fortress that came before it and the moated and walled castle town that came after it.
The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the King Library, Room 111. It can also be viewed at csc.edu/live.
