Alumna Kim Hansel to be honored for work supporting adoption and foster families

 The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), which orchestrates the Angels in Adoption program, will honor Hansel, a resident of Douglas, Wyoming, at an awards ceremony Sept. 16, and gala Sept. 17, in Washington, D.C.

Hansel is being honored for her work as editor of Adoption Today and Fostering Families Today, as well as editor of The Foster Parenting Toolbox and the soon-to-be released The Kinship Parenting Toolbox.

Hansel graduated from CSC in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in English journalism. She started her career as a special sections assistant at the Longmont Daily Times-Call in Colorado.

Hansel is now the special sections editor at Louis and Company Publishing, which publishes Adoption Today and Fostering Families Today.

For more than 13 years, Hansel has worked to positively impact the lives of adoptees, children in foster care and their families through assisting to create publications that uniquely address the parenting needs of foster and adoptive parents.

“I've learned many great things about adoption and foster care and enjoy helping families find information and resources that help them on their parenting journey. Adoption and foster care are much more complex areas than I ever imagined and I believe that the magazines serve as helpful resources to families so children can have the best possible outcomes,” Hansel said.

“To receive the award from an organization that I have worked with for many years and admire their work, is truly a privilege. However, the best reward I receive in my work are the notes from foster and adoptive families who have found the articles I write and the issues I put together beneficial in their day-to-day parenting,” Hansel said.

Since the program’s inception, over 2,000 individuals, couples and organizations have been honored.
