CHADRON – Lane Swedberg of North Platte, and Cheyenne Deering of Wall, South Dakota, were crowned Chadron State College’s homecoming king and queen Thursday night during coronation at Armstrong Gymnasium.

Both Swedberg and Deering work as admission ambassadors for Chadron State.

Swedberg, who missed the coronation because he is Tom Sawyer in CSC’s production of “Big River,” is a senior studying math and science education. He was nominated by the Student Alumni Council. He graduated from Wallace High School and is the son of Ralph and LaDonna Swedberg.

Deering is a senior studying communication arts. She was nominated by the Public Relations Club. She is a graduate of Wall High School and is the daughter of Stephanie Volmer and Joel Deering.

The Chadron State College Campus Activities Board did not release the order of voting for the royalty attendants.

The attendants to the queen, in alphabetical order, are Kelsey Empfield of Scottsbluff, Maria Evtodieva of Russia, Mariah Gaston of Custer, S.D., and Amanda Tallman of Detroit, Mich.

The runners-up in the competition for king are Frederick Culp of Mililani, Hawaii, Zerek Jones of La Junta, Colo., Sam Parker of Harrison, and Curtis Stevens of Ogallala.

In addition to the royalty being announced Thursday, CAB announced the bed sheet contest winners. The National Association for Music Educators won the people’s choice award and tied with the Social Work Club for originality. The War Eagles Club was named the top finisher in the spirit category.
