Two CSC goat tiers are among top four entering finals tonight

CSC junior Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff, who made her third run Friday night, completed it in 6.2 seconds to share first place in the go-round with Jordan Thurston-Miller of Gillette College and Hayden Segelke of Northeastern Junior College at Sterling, Colo.

Thurston-Miller has the lead in the averages at 18.7 seconds while Winchell and Segelke are tied for second with total times of 19.1 seconds.  Right behind them in fourth place is the other Chadron State cowgirl, Amy Tierney of Oral and Hot Springs, S.D., with a cumulative time of 19.5 seconds.

Thurston-Miller’s times have been 6.3, 6.2 and 6.2 seconds, respectively. Winchell and Segelke have posted identical times in each go-round—6.2, 6.7 and 6.2 seconds. Tierney’s marks have been 6.5, 6.6 and 6.4 seconds.

The contestants with the 12 best cumulative marks in all nine events through the rodeo’s three go-rounds will compete in tonight’s finals, which will start at 7 o’clock in the Casper Events Center.

All four of the goat tying leaders are from the Central Rocky Mountain Region, as is Shaylee Hance of Central Wyoming College at Riverton, who is one of three cowgirls sharing fifth place in the averages in 20.1 seconds.

Hance won the region’s championship this spring with 982.5 points, followed by Thurston-Miller with 855, Winchell with 680 and Segelke with 522.5.

Tierney was 10th in the goat tying averages in the region with 220 points.  She got to compete at the national rodeo because she was elected the student representative on the region’s board of directors a year ago.  Her term is for two years.
