Plans are set for an eventful and informative New Student Orientation at Chadron State College. “How to” sessions and activities highlight the schedule for Aug. 15 and 16.

All incoming Chadron State College students, both freshmen and transfers, will begin moving onto campus Aug. 15.

As part of New Student Orientation, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday a temporary one-stop shop will be set up in the Student Center. Offices and service available will include START, ID cards and parking passes among others.

The IT Help Desk will remain in the Reta E. King library in an effort to help students become acquainted with the new location.

A welcome address to the class of 2017 by Dr. Randy Rhine, president of the college, will take place at Elliott Field at 4:30 p.m., followed by a class photo.

A picnic for students and their families will be served under a large tent on the east side of Student Center. The NSO fee covers the Thursday picnic and all meals Friday. Student meal plans begin Saturday.

Programming Aug. 16 will begin after breakfast with a session explaining how to connect to MyCSC, a student panel and overview of the day’s events.

Parents are encouraged to attend a parent panel and other breakout sessions in Memorial Hall at 10 a.m. while students meet with academic departments.

From 12 p.m to 2 p.m. an Info Fair will be hosted by Frances Gonzalez in the library. The fair offers students and families the opportunity to visit with a variety of campus clubs, organizations, departments as well as community resources.

Both Aug. 15 and Aug. 16 "Where's my classroom?” tours will be given to new students by NSO Eagle Leaders. Tours will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Students wishing to take the tour must sign up in advance at the Info Desk in the Student Center.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center, concurrent presentations will cover the following topics: the Nelson Physical Activity Center, Study Abroad, CSC Dining Services, ROTC, Project Strive/TRiO and opportunities within student government.

At 5 p.m. Friday the all-campus luau picnic will be served under the tent east of the Student Center. A backyard beach party for students only will feature hula, limbo, hula hoop and sand volleyball contests with CSC beach towels as prizes. The beach party begins at 6 p.m. and runs until dark.

Those interested in registering and more details should visit the CSC New Student Orientation webpage.
