IT Help Desk increases service to students
A dream the Chadron State College IT department has had for several years will be coming true April 9. The Help Desk will be moving from Miller Hall to the northwest section of the Reta E. King library main level to assist more students. There will be no interruption of service during the move.
The new location is more centrally located and convenient to access. Unless students have classes in Miller Hall they may have had difficulty in finding the current location, according to CSC's Chief Information Officer, Ann Burk.
Burk said, "The library offers the perfect environment with full-time staff on duty during weekends and evenings allowing us future service hour flexibility. The library has space for IT to accommodate more students and, in the future, expand our services to include assisting students with technical problems they may have with their devices and room for small training sessions."
She said the timing was right and the funding was important. "We couldn't have done it without the support of the library renovation initiative, student leadership, and the facilities staff.” A grand opening of the new Help Desk will take place later this semester.
Another IT enhancement taking place next week will be the addition of myPassword which allows faculty, staff and students to re-set their own CSC account passwords. It incorporates the use of challenge questions much like systems used for online banking.
The IT Help Desk hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Phone and face-to-face support will be offered from the new library location.
