Inauguration festivities underway
Inauguration festivities leading up to the 3 p.m. April 26 investiture of Dr. Randy Rhine as the 11th president of Chadron State College began Thursday amid bright green lawns fed by recent moisture.
The CSC student, faculty and staff barbeque was followed by the Keith Anderson concert in the Nelson Physical Activity Center. The singer from Oklahoma has had a No. 2 and a No. 8 hit on the Country charts and written songs performed by Garth Brooks and Big & Rich.
The Nearly Naked Mile run took place about 10 p.m. The NMM is an annual student-led effort to raise funds and almost 10,000 articles clothing for charity.
The Inauguration of Dr. Rhine will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 26 in Memorial Hall. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Valet parking will be provided by the Student Alumni Council. Self-parking is available in the 10th Street parking area, south of Old Admin and by the Student Center. A parking map can be seen on the inauguration webpage.
Immediately following the inauguration, the public is invited to a free reception in Old Admin. A recording of the February debut Steinway concert by Dr. James Margetts will be playing for the enjoyment of those attending the reception. Dr Jackson and Mrs. Peg Hammitt's generous gift made the restoration of CSC's original piano possible.
Numerous student displays including photos from the Alaskan Iditarod trip and other student projects from Family and Consumer Science, Theater, Justice Studies, Biology, and others will be displayed in the main hallway and in eight classrooms on the main floor. Tours will take interested visitors to see The Eagle office on second floor and the mock courtroom on third floor of Old Admin.
Parking lot closures April 26 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. to accomodate valet parking will include the following: Math and Science parking lot; Miller Hall parking lot, south of the building on 12th Street only; Hildreth Hall parking lot, south of the building and the three tiers leading to the Maintenance Building.
