Governor appoints NSCS board members

Chaney said, “I have seen many Nebraskans earn degrees from one of our three state colleges. These students were able to enter the workforce or begin a new career, bringing great benefit to themselves, their families and communities, and Nebraska. I am grateful to have the opportunity to have a role in continuing with this important work by serving as a member of the board of trustees of the Nebraska State College System.”

Chaney is the CEO of the Auburn State Bank and has served in that capacity since 1995. A graduate of the University of Nebraska and a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin,  Chaney has been active in the Auburn and greater Southeast Nebraska community with numerous organizations, including the Auburn Development Council and the Peru State College Foundation. Chaney has also served as a past board member of the Nebraska Bankers Association and past president of the Auburn Jaycees, Auburn Chamber of Commerce and Auburn Rotary. Chaney lives in Auburn with his wife, Mary Ann. They have three sons and five grandchildren.

Governor Heineman also reappointed Bob Engles to the NSCS Board for a six year term. Engles, also from Auburn, had been appointed in 2011 to complete the term of Floyd Vrtiska who had stepped down from the Board. Engles, who serves on the Student Affairs, Marketing and Enrollment Committee, said, “I am honored the Governor once again appointed me to the NSCS board of trustees. I believe in the mission of the state colleges and know that Chadron, Peru and Wayne State play a critical role for students interested in earning a college degree in Nebraska.”

Engles, a graduate of Peru State, is the owner of Engles Agency in Auburn where he lives with his wife, Wendy, a teacher in the Auburn Schools. They have two daughters and three grandchildren living in the Auburn area.

“Bob has been a valuable asset to the NSCS Board, and I am pleased the Governor has reappointed him for another term. Both Bob and John are strong advocates for students and the state college system. Their vast experience will benefit the colleges, and I look forward to working with both during their tenure on the board,” said Chancellor Carpenter.
