CSC cowgirls solid in goat tying; McAdow misses third calf

McAdow, who won tie down roping in the Central Rocky Mountain Region for 2012-13, was in fourth place in the standings through the first two go-rounds of the national rodeo with times of 9.8 and 9.9 seconds. But with 48 entries in the event, a contestant has to catch and tie all three of his calves to make the finals on Saturday night.

McAdow is a senior from Littleton, Colo. This was his first year at Chadron State.

The two Chadron State cowgirls at the rodeo improved their chances to make the finals in goat tying on Tuesday.

After two go-rounds, Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff is tied for third and Amy Tierney of Hot Springs is alone in seventh place among the 53 entries.

Winchell’s times have been 6.2 and 6.7 seconds. She tied for first in the opening go-round Monday and shared 15th place in the second session Tuesday.

Tierney completed her first run in 6.5 seconds to share seventh place in the go-round and had a 6.6-second clocking on Tuesday to tie for 11th.

The event leader is Jordan Thurston Miller of Lance Creek, Wyo., and Gillette College. Her times of 6.3 and 6.2 seconds add up to 12.5 seconds, four-tenths of a second faster than Winchell’s total and six-tenths faster than Tierney’s.

Tierney will make her third run Thursday night and Winchell will compete again Friday night. This is Tierney’s first national finals rodeo. Winchell finished third in the goat tying at last year’s rodeo when she was attending Eastern Wyoming College.

The top 12 contestants in each of the nine events at the end of the third go-round advance to the championship session Saturday night.
