Seven Chadron State College Upward Bound students and three UB staff members attended the Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Pre-College Student Leadership Conference in Chicago, Ill. Oct. 9-13.

The conference emphasized student learning and leadership development, as well as college preparation, financial aid, goal setting and team building.

The CSC UB students participated in a variety of workshops pertinent to high school students. The students also volunteered to introduce and assist the workshop presenters.

The UB students and staff members also had the opportunity to “Discover Chicago” by visiting the Chicago Art Institute, Shedd Aquarium, Willis Tower, The Bean, and enjoying an informative Architectural River Cruise.

The Chicago trip was a new experience for all of the UB students and the first city Maryline Watak, a Chadron High School senior from the Marshall Islands, has ever visited.

The UB students will present a summary of their trip and define how the conference helped them become better leaders at the next Upward Bound quarterly meeting.
