Art shows open
An art show featuring recent work in a variety of mediums created by CSC art faculty including Laura Bentz, Richard Bird, Mary Donahue, and Nancy Sharps opened today in the Main Gallery of Memorial Hall and will run through March 15. Donahue said that Daniel Binkard and Dewayne Gimeson, who have been an important part of expanding the program in photography and digital photography, are showing for the first time in the faculty show.
Don Ruleaux, recipient of a 2012 Nebraska Governor’s Art Award for Excellence in Art Education, will also display his work.
In Gallery 239 in Memorial Hall, a print portfolio entitled “Counterpoint” opened today and will also run through March 15. The organizer of the project was Denise Saint-Onge, who lives in Quebec, Canada. The concept for this portfolio was to explore the idea of balance through the process of collaboration based on the premise that one of printmaking’s strengths is its ability to expand its boundaries and transform, thus ensuring its survival as a viable medium for creative arts. Each participating artist selected a partner working in any other medium or discipline thereby expanding the act of creation and linking with experts in other fields. Working in pairs, collaborators created a single print that reflects the poem “Objects” by Gertrude Stein. Each culminating image manifests the vision and influence of both contributors.
