Advising Week deemed a success
Advising Week, Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, was a new effort intended to encourage Chadron State College on-campus undergraduate students to meet their academic advisors and build their spring 2014 class schedules.
The Advising Week committee felt that designing a formal, focused week would assist with this effort. Over the five day event, 347 students were enrolled compared to 280 during the same time period a year ago. An additional 43 students had classes added or changed this year.
Dr. Bob Knight, associate professor of political science and chair of the department of Communication and Social Sciences, said that students seemed to really like the central advising centers Tuesday through Thursday. Knight worked at the Gold Room Thursday afternoon.
Sherry Douglas, chair of the Advising Week Committee, said, “So far, feedback I have received is overwhelmingly positive. Students loved it. We are grateful to everyone who helped students and we will request more faculty advisors at the central locations next time due to the number of students who responded.”
Records staff and START office staff, along with faculty, assisted students Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of Advising Week in central locations such as the Gold Room, the Student Center and the King Library.
