Time capsule dedication set for Thursday

Published:

Chadron State College students plan to officially dedicate a time capsule marking the institution’s centennial this week.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Centennial Flag Plaza on the Dean’s Green.

Con Marshall, who served as the institution’s director of information and sports information director for more than three decades, will be the event’s keynote speaker. Marshall authored books for both the institution’s 75th and 100th anniversaries.

Dr. Janie Park, Chadron State College president, also will have a role in the ceremony.

Although the capsule is being dedicated, it will remain above ground for a while longer.

Tiffani Roelle of Columbus, one of the students organizing the effort, said the items that have been gathered will be on display in the Student Center during graduation week. She also said Daniel Binkard and Dewayne Gimeson of CSC College Relations are interviewing members of the college community to produce video footage for the capsule.

The capsule, which is two feet deep by one foot square, will be buried shortly after the completion of the spring semester. The students are scheduling the capsule to be unearthed in 50 years.
