Nebraska State College System Chancellor Stan Carpenter announced today that he will recommend to the NSCS Board of Trustees that Dr. Randy Rhine be named interim president of Chadron State College following the retirement of CSC President, Dr. Janie Park.

President Park announced recently that she will retire effective May 11. Chancellor Carpenter’s recommendation will be acted upon by the Trustees at the April 20, 2012 Board meeting.  Rhine currently serves as the vice president for enrollment management, student services and director of college relations.

Rhine is a familiar face around Chadron State College. His career at CSC began in 2005 when he was brought to CSC by President Park to provide leadership in reversing CSC’s enrollment decline and designing initiatives targeting CSC’s mission of access and affordable quality education.

“I am honored by the opportunity afforded me,” said Rhine. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students at CSC and with Chancellor Carpenter and my colleagues in the Nebraska State College System. Chadron State College is a great place, and its increasing enrollment and emphasis on outreach and student opportunity bodes well for the future.”

Board Chair Carter “Cap” Peterson of Wayne said, “Randy is an excellent choice for interim president at CSC. He is a strong advocate for the College. I strongly support the Chancellor’s recommendation and am happy Randy has agreed to serve as interim president of Chadron State College.”

When making the announcement this morning, Carpenter said, “Randy Rhine has a great understanding of Chadron State College and the Nebraska State College System. As importantly, he is dedicated to serving students. He has long supported a student-centered atmosphere. Randy’s time at the College will enable him to continue his work with the college constituents across Nebraska and the region.”

Trustee Gary Bieganski commented, “Appointing Randy as CSC interim president speaks to his value to the college and its students. I am pleased by this recommendation and look forward to working with Randy as he continues to make CSC an even stronger institution.”

Trustee Larry Teahon echoed the support offered by his fellow trustees. “The decision to appoint Randy as interim president enables CSC to remain focused on student enrollment, outreach and retention. I am happy with the recommendation and I am excited about CSC’s future.”
