'Last hurrah' for Wind Symphony, Community Band is Friday

 Lambert, who has accepted the position of director of bands at Southern Utah University, will lead the CSC Wind Symphony and Chadron Community Symphonic Band for the last time Friday. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in the ballroom of the Student Center and is open to the public free of charge.

“We have a lot of fun things going on for this concert,” Lambert said. “It will be a great last hurrah for us as the semester draws to a close.”

One song to be performed by the Wind Symphony has special significance, as it relates to the group’s recent Minnesota tour. The band will perform “Hey!,” which was composed by Timothy Mahr, a faculty member at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Mahr worked with the CSC musicians during their visit to the institution, which has developed an outstanding reputation for its performing arts.

The Wind Symphony also is preparing its rendition of “Olympic Fanfare,” the John Williams number that was written for the 1984 summer games in Los Angeles.

The community band also will play a variety of spirited music, including the Big Band sounds of a Glenn Miller tribute and music from “My Fair Lady.”

Lambert, whose chosen instrument is the trumpet, will receive help from his wife, Michelle, a trombonist, the Wind Symphony, and two fellow faculty members in a performance of “Fandango.” Dr. Michael Stephens will direct the band and Dr. James Margetts will provide piano accompaniment for the piece.

Lambert has been on the CSC faculty since 2005. He earned a doctorate from the University of North Texas shortly after arriving at CSC, and holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
