The families of Chadron State College students will converge on the campus this week as the institution welcomes them for its annual Family Day celebration Saturday, Sept. 22.

Much of the activity centers on the CSC football team’s home-opener against the Western State Mountaineers, which kicks off Saturday, Sept. 22, at noon at Elliott Field. Another highlight will be the annual Chadron State College rodeo at the Dawes County Fairgrounds. Slack is set for 1 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, with the performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

The busy weekend will get under way with a pep rally at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Armstrong Gym. The pep rally, a new Family Day event, is being sponsored by Student Senate and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. It is open to the public, and will feature 100 free T-shirts and food.

Pregame football festivities Saturday will include introductions of the players and their parents. Parents of the cheer team and athletic trainers will be recognized at halftime. Following the game, fans will gather at Country Kitchen restaurant for the reception with coaches and parents.

In addition, four families with three or more generations of CSC graduates are set to receive the CSC Family Tree Award on Saturday. They are the Feldhausen, Gillett and Nitsch families of Chadron, and the Lee family of Sioux County.

The CSC music department has scheduled a pair of fundraisers Saturday -- its pancake breakfast Saturday morning at Memorial Hall and athletic jersey rentals. The jerseys may be reserved online at this link.

A full schedule of events is available at www.csc.edu/students/family_day.
