Wreath-making course is first of new WNCC-CSC partnership
A new agreement between Chadron State College and Western Nebraska Community College for community personal development courses will get its start this weekend when event participants learn to make holiday wreaths.
The instructors will be Chadron horticultural landscape artists Lucinda Mays and Lori Frederick. They will provide materials, hands-on instruction and many examples for additional simple stress-free greenery decorating for the home.
The instructors are asking participants to bring a pair of hand pruners to snip greenery, gloves and an old shirt or cover-up to keep fresh plant resins off clothing. Attendees also may bring special ornaments or keepsakes to include in the wreath.
Although the registration deadline on promotional materials was Wednesday, Nov. 16, Frederick said Thursday that there is still room for more participants. The $30 cost includes supplies. People may sign up by contacting Mays at lmays@csc.edu or Frederick at 308-432-3508.
Frederick, who serves as WNCC’s Chadron community education coordinator, is in the process of lining up more personal development courses. Already on the schedule for early 2012 is a one-day painting course by Sandra Bartlett, which will teach the techniques of the late Bob Ross, a renowned artist of television fame. It will be offered Jan. 14, Feb. 11 and March 10.
The agreement between CSC and WNCC in May paved the way for not only community education courses, but also for instruction in health occupations and business in Chadron.
A course designed to help students obtain basic nursing assistant certification is set for three sessions in January through April 2012, while a course for those wishing to assume the role of medication aide will be offered Feb. 4-April 21.
Topics of business courses to be offered in Chadron through the partnership include Quickbook basics, entrepreneurship and developing a business plan through the Rural Enterprise Assistance Project. The entrepreneurship course is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30, while the others are set for early 2012.
More information about the courses may be obtained by contacting Tammy DuBray, WNCC executive secretary, at 308-763-2002.
