Three concerts on CSC schedule this week
The Chadron State College Music Department has three concerts on the schedule this week.
For the first two events, the department will play host to guest performers. Stellar Brass of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band will perform Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chadron Arts Center, and David Bohnert, a member of the Wayne State College faculty, will perform at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. in the Chicoine Atrium of the Sandoz Center. The week’s final event will be Sunday, April 10, with a concert by the CSC choirs at 3 p.m. in the Chadron Arts Center. Each concert is open to the public free of charge.
Stellar Brass combines the instruments of a traditional brass quintet with percussion instruments. The result is a broad range of styles, including music from the Renaissance, American folk songs and dances, Latin, orchestral transcription and Dixieland. The band is known to transform from a marching band, to a classic rock group, to even a barbershop quartet.
Bohnert, associate professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State, is an active performer, who maintains an active solo schedule. He also plays regularly with A Touch of Brass, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and Municipal Band, the Northeast Area Jazz Ensemble.
The concert Sunday will feature CSC’s three vocal groups, the concert choir, the men’s ensemble and Arioso, the women’s choir. Arioso will be playing essentially the same set of a capella music it performed during its recent concert tour in Europe.
Besides this week’s three concerts, the department has two other events on the schedule this month. The CSC Wind Symphony will join the Community Symphonic Band for a concert April 19 and the CSC instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles will entertain an audience April 29. Each of those events begins at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
