Rock duo Nelson coming for Galaxy Series
Fans of popular music spanning at least four decades are buying tickets for next week’s concert of Gunnar and Matthew Nelson, the twins who gained stardom as the hit band Nelson.
The Nelson brothers will open the Chadron State College Galaxy Series with a concert in Memorial Hall on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m.
Although their show, “Ricky Nelson Remembered,” is a tribute to their father and his music, fans of rock ‘n’ roll from the early 1990s will remember the Nelson twins for their own music, including the 1990 No. 1 hit, “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection.”
The twins’ father had a string of hits in the 1960s and 1970s before his life tragically ended in a 1985 airplane crash. The elder Nelson’s string of 19 top 10 hits include “Hello, Mary Lou,” “Travelin’ Man” and “Garden Party.” He entered the entertainment business in the late 1940s and early ‘50s as a child actor on his family’s popular radio and television sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.”
Chadron is one of more than a dozen stops on the Nelsons’ tour. They also have stops in Green Bay, Wis., and Cheyenne, Wyo., scheduled next week.
