New direction set for homecoming parade

Published:

Chadron State College is moving its homecoming parade in a new direction this year -- literally.

The CSC homecoming parade will begin at the corner of Chadron’s First and Main streets and run south to 10th Street, opposite from recent years. The change in direction is intended to make it more convenient for parade participants to attend the ensuing Centennial Pregame Festival on the Dean’s Green, which will have food and activities for all ages.

The parade, which is organized by the Blue Key Honor Society, will begin at 10 a.m., with judging at 9:30 a.m. Parade participants do not need to register in advance, but are asked to arrive early. Entries will line up on the north side of First Street, with floats on the west side of Main Street and vehicles without trailers on the east.

This year’s parade marshal is Dr. Stan Carpenter, chancellor of the Nebraska State College System. Carpenter leads the three colleges of the NSCS – Chadron State College, Peru State College and Wayne State College. Carpenter has been at the helm of the system for the past 11 years.
