Music department offers classes for children

Chadron State College’s music department is adding to its offerings for children in the surrounding community this fall.

Dr. Una Taylor, CSC assistant professor of music, is organizing Tiny Trebles, a program to help children in kindergarten through second grade develop their musical talent through singing. The program will complement TrebleMakers, the group for children in third through fifth grade.

The programs emphasize fun, fostering a love of music through singing games and dancing with an introduction to formal choir singing basics for the older children.

“One of our goals is to provide families in the community with opportunities to develop their musical talents,” Taylor said. “We are offering classes that provide some continuity in terms of ages – from preschool through fifth grade.”

The classes, which are once per week, begin Sept. 6 for Tiny Trebles and Sept. 8 for TrebleMakers. Children who are interested may attend the first class free of charge.

CSC faculty members offer a wide variety of other music instruction for children, including Musikgarten and instrumental lessons. More information may be obtained by contacting the music office at 308-432-6375 or jrutter@csc.edu
