Library website features new search tool

Published:

Since the inception of EbscoDiscovery in August 2010, visitors to the Chadron State College King Library have been enjoying the expansion of its new online catalog.

EbscoDiscovery is a one-box search engine, not unlike Google and other commercial search engines, which enables the users to search all electronic and print materials contained in the King Library including newspapers, government documents, videos, magazines, scholarly journals and more.

“The primary reason we acquired this fabulous tool was to offer our students and staff a search engine that provides them with the convenience that they are accustomed to, such as Google, Yahoo, and so forth, and, at the same time, delivering results that are scholarly, proprietary, vetted information,” said Shawn Hartman, assistant director of public services for the King Library. “EbscoDiscovery creates an easy, yet powerful means to access all of the library’s holdings from a single search box.”

To access the EbscoDiscovery catalog, go to www.csc.edu/library, click on the EbscoDiscovery catalog tab located on the top, left-hand side of the library homepage and a single search field with options will appear.

Another resource added to the King Library website is Ebsco A-to-Z. The service provides links to all of the library’s e-resources, including e-journals, titles in full-text databases and e-books. Hartman said Ebsco A-to-Z offers users a “one-stop” search of all of the library’s e-collection, with an easy navigation to full-text content.

“I’d like to encourage the faculty and staff to ‘play around’ with these new resources and let us know their thoughts,” Hartman said. “Also, please feel free to call us and we will be happy to provide you and/or your classes with an instruction session on how to use these resources.”
