Health Professions Day canceled

Chadron State College’s Health Professions Day scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 5, has been canceled, with organizers citing the fiscal condition of high schools as the primary cause.

As recently as 2009, more than 325 high school students registered for the event annual event to hear first-hand information about the health care industry and education, but this year registrations totaled fewer than three dozen.

Jill Mack, CSC health professions coordinator, said high schools have indicated they cannot fund the bus travel, which places travel costs directly on the students.

Mack said she will spread the word about CSC’s health professions offerings by traveling to high schools and college fairs.
