FNB Chadron supports upgrade to Armstrong Building
The fundraising effort to renovate and expand Chadron State College’s Armstrong Physical Education Building has received a major boost from the First National Bank of Chadron.
The bank’s $50,000 was among the first commitments to CSC’s Vision 2011 multi-million-dollar campaign, although not announced until recently.
Steve Cleveland, FNB Chadron president, said he immediately recognized the project’s importance and wanted to exemplify its strong local support by committing early.
“Obviously, the facility is in need of updating and we recognized the value of this project right away,” he said. “We are proud to play a part in creating a facility that will serve future generations of college students and the community.”
The renovation and expansion of the Armstrong Building is one of two capital projects for the campaign. The building has aged since its opening in 1964, serving as the Eagles’ athletic headquarters and competition venue for the basketball and volleyball teams.
CSC’s campaign, set to wrap up late this year as a highlight of the institution’s centennial celebration, was initiated to boost the foundation’s capital, endowments and annual fund. About $4 million of the funds will be used for the Events Center and the construction of the new Rangeland Agriculture Center and Pavilion.
The Foundation will use $5 million to boost its endowments, to assist with everything from scholarships and equipment to student and faculty support. The remaining $2 million is being raised through the annual fall fund drive and phonathon to provide immediate support to campus.
