Chadron State College has once again received recognition for workplace safety from the Nebraska Safety Council. CSC was presented the council’s 2010 Star Award, the second highest honor in the Workplace Safety Award Program.

“Each person who works at Chadron State can claim a role in earning this award. I commend the employees of Chadron State for their commitment to safety,” said Brenda Barry-Schommer, who coordinates CSC’s safety efforts.

The award was presented during the Nebraska Safety Conference in Lincoln on April 20.

The Workplace Safety Program is designed for Nebraska Safety Council members that encourage and promote the prevention of occupational injuries and illness in the workplace. Award applications are reviewed by a volunteer, independent committee of Council member company safety professionals.

The criteria for the Nebraska Safety Council awards are based on the statistical data submitted with the application. The data submitted is compared to the Bureau of Labor Statistics national average incident rate for their industry. In 2010, CSC reported zero days away from work, just two cases resulting in job restrictions for a total of 14 days, and three other recordable cases that didn’t result in restrictions.

CSC has earned recognition from the Nebraska Safety Council for the past 15 years, including 10 awards.
