Chadron State College expects to start the fall semester with a healthy enrollment increase when classes begin Monday.

Dr. Randy Rhine, CSC vice president for enrollment management and student services, presented preliminary figures to CSC’s employees during their first all-campus meeting Friday, Aug. 19. If Friday’s numbers hold, CSC will have a 4.28 percent rise in its head count and a 4.99 percent bump in its full-time equivalency compared to the 2010 start of classes. The head count of 2,878 is 118 students higher than last year’s total at this time.

The number of students pursuing master’s degrees continues to grow by leaps and bounds at CSC. The figures indicate an enrollment of 575 students in the graduate courses, 66 more than last fall.

“This is the largest number of new students we’ve had in some time,” Rhine said.

Growth can be seen both online and on campus. He said CSC has processed about 985 housing contracts, the most since the early 1990s.

“It’s been many, many years since we’ve seen that many folks on campus,” Rhine said. “Not only have we been able to expand the grad program and the online program, but we’ve been able to expand the number of people living on campus.”
